Product management coaching from an ex‑Meta and Amazon product leader

I'm Ben Freeman, a London-based product leader with 20 years in product. I've interviewed hundreds of PM candidates, been through the Amazon and Meta hiring processes myself, and coached 10+ PMs to promotion and 5+ to job offers.

Who I coach

How the coaching programme works

Most PM coaching is a mock interview by the hour. I run it as a programme in six stages. It starts with an honest read of your level and strengths, and it carries on after the offer, into your first 90 days.

1

Diagnose

What level am I really operating at, and what are my strengths?

A level read-out (operating level against your title), a strengths and energy map, and your top three gaps.

2

Target

Where should I apply next?

A target profile: the level to aim for, and the company stages and domains that fit your experience.

3

Position

How do I show up on paper and in the first call?

Your CV, LinkedIn profile, a one-line intro and your career narrative.

4

Story bank

Which stories show I'm ready for the level?

8 to 10 stories mapped to the competencies your target roles test.

5

Interview

How do I turn interviews into offers?

Mock interviews by round type, and a debrief after every real interview.

6

Land and grow

How do I succeed once I'm in?

A 30/60/90 day plan, a stakeholder map, your first win, and monthly check-ins against the gaps from stage 1.

Every real interview is debriefed and fed back into your stories and narrative. Once you start the new role, the gaps found in stage 1 become your growth plan.

CV and LinkedIn reviews

I read your CV and profile the way I did when interviewing PM candidates at Meta and Amazon. You get specific feedback and example rewrites, and you make the changes yourself.

CV and LinkedIn review

Written

CV: comments on every section against the role you want, covering the quick-skim test, scope and impact for your level, keywords for applicant tracking systems, and layout. The five changes that matter most, and up to five bullets rewritten as examples.

LinkedIn: comments on your headline, About section, last three roles, skills and keywords, Featured section, photo and banner, and recruiter settings. A suggested headline, example rewrites for your About section, and the keywords recruiters search for. I also check your CV and LinkedIn tell the same story.

What people say

Ben has given me a lot to think about from our first introductory call. He also suggested a way forward that might help me in the future. He is clearly very experienced and knowledgeable in this area.
Coachee · Topmate review, October 2026
I met Ben two years ago through the Meta Ambassador Program, and he continues to be an invaluable mentor and trusted friend. Ben consistently pushes me to think more deeply about complex topics and to challenge assumptions in ways that meaningfully expand my thinking. Throughout the Meta interview process, his support and perspective were invaluable in helping me cut through imposter syndrome and stay focused and confident in my goal.
Jessica Higgs · Product at Meta · LinkedIn recommendation
Ben was an excellent line manager and coach. From a personal point of view, he took the time to develop my skillset which enabled me to rise from a product manager to product leader. I'll always be grateful for my time working with him.

Yes. A written CV and LinkedIn review is £99. You send your CV, your LinkedIn profile link and the role you are aiming for on Topmate, and I reply within 3 working days with comments on every section of both, the five changes that matter most, and example rewrites. You make the changes yourself. If you would rather work through it live, the 45 minute Target and positioning session (£99) covers where to aim plus your CV, LinkedIn and career narrative.

Which programme should I choose?

If you already have interviews booked, the Interview Sprint. If you are starting a search or it has stalled, Full Search. If you want support through your first 90 days in the new role as well, Search to Success. If you are staying put and want promotion, Level Up. If you are not sure, start with the diagnostic and I will recommend one.

How do I prepare for a Meta product manager interview?

Meta's PM loop centres on three interviews: product sense, analytical thinking (execution and metrics) and leadership and drive. Prepare for each separately. For product sense, practise one structure until it is automatic. For analytical thinking, practise defining goals and metrics for real products and diagnosing a metric that has dropped. For leadership and drive, prepare six to eight stories you can tell in two minutes each. Do at least three or four timed mock interviews with someone who will interrupt you, as a real interviewer will.

What is Meta's product sense interview testing?

Whether you can turn an ambiguous problem into a good product. Interviewers want to see you explain why the company would care, go broad on who the users are, choose one group for a clear reason, go broad on their problems, prioritise one, then design a focused solution and talk through its risks. Signpost your structure at the start and check the interviewer is happy with it. That gives you control of the conversation and gives them a clear path to score you against.

How should I manage time in a product sense interview?

You usually have 30 to 35 minutes once introductions are done. A good split is about five minutes on why the problem matters, five to eight on audience, five to eight on problems, and five to eight on the solution. Most candidates run out of time on the solution because they are slow at listing audiences. Practise segmenting quickly (age, income, time available, both sides of a marketplace) so you have more time for prioritisation and design.

What is the most common mistake in product sense interviews?

Leading with your own idea. "I've had this problem and here's what I'd build" is one of the quickest ways to fail. The interviewer wants to see you take in the whole space and reason to a product. The second most common mistake is picking one audience without considering others, or prioritising without saying why. Name your criteria out loud: size of the opportunity, willingness to pay, ease of building, time to market.

How can I practise product sense outside mock interviews?

Pick any everyday product you don't normally think about, such as a café napkin, a parking sign or a ticket machine. Ask who uses it, including the business on the other side. List their problems, choose the most valuable one to solve, and decide how you would fix it. Doing this a few times a week builds the habit of starting with the customer and makes you much faster at segmentation in the real interview.

How do I prepare for an Amazon product manager interview?

Amazon interviews are built around its Leadership Principles, and most questions are behavioural: "Tell me about a time when…". Expect several interviewers, each covering two or three principles, and a Bar Raiser. Build a set of strong stories, map each one to the principles it demonstrates, and practise telling them with clear actions and measurable results. Interviewers will probe for detail, so know the numbers behind every story.

How many stories do I need for Amazon's Leadership Principles?

Aim for eight to ten strong stories, each covering two or three principles, plus a couple of spares. I prepared this way myself: five core stories I knew in depth, a second set for the gaps, and a sheet mapping every story to the principles. Include at least one real failure, one disagreement with a senior person, one time you went deep into data, and one time you delivered with fewer resources than you needed.

How do I answer leadership and behavioural questions well?

Be specific and use "I", not "we". Interviewers look for ownership, self-awareness, how you handle conflict, and whether you grow the people around you. Strong answers explain the situation briefly, spend most of the time on what you did and why, and finish with the result and what you learned. Prepare examples of difficult feedback you received, a hard working relationship you improved, and a time you brought a sceptical group with you.

Do you share real Meta or Amazon interview questions?

No. I don't share confidential material from former employers. The structure of these interviews and what they test are widely known, and that is what matters. I help you build the skills and stories that work whichever question you get.

How do I get promoted to Senior PM or Group PM?

Promotion is decided by people who need confidence you're already working at the next level. Find out exactly what that level expects at your company, take on scope that shows it, and make sure your peers, cross-functional partners and your manager's manager can speak to your work. Ask them for feedback well before the cycle. Then write your case with evidence of impact, not a list of activity.

I'm moving from PM to managing PMs. What changes?

Your results now come through other people. The basics are: help each person see how their work connects to their own goals and the company's, remove what stops them focusing, hold regular one-to-ones, give timely feedback, and hire well in the first place. Delegate goals rather than tasks. The hardest adjustment for most new managers is stopping doing the work themselves.

How do I deal with a stakeholder who won't engage with my ideas?

Start by understanding their goals and their reality: what they're measured on, what they're worried about, and what their team can actually deliver. Then work out what you can give them that helps with those goals, and shape your proposal so it becomes their success too. I've used this to turn a resistant peer into one of my closest partners. It takes longer than pushing, but it lasts.

How is AI changing product management interviews and roles?

Companies increasingly expect PMs to use AI in their own work and to understand how AI products are built and evaluated. In interviews, be ready to explain how you use AI tools day to day, and in product sense questions consider AI solutions where they fit the problem. I build products with AI every day and can help you talk about it credibly, with real examples.

What happens in a session with you?

We start by agreeing what would make the session most useful. For interview prep, that is usually a timed mock interview with immediate feedback, then work on your structure or stories. For career coaching, I mainly ask questions to help you work out your own answer, and share direct advice when that is more useful. You leave with one or two specific next steps.
